  • Aluminum spool filled with 4 LB Stren monofilament fishing line
  • Panfish

Bait:

  • Berkley PowerBait Power Grubs

Tackle:

  • 2 - Spinner Grubs
  • 2 - Jig Heads
  • 10 - Hooks
  • 5 - Split Shots
  • 3 - Bobbers

How To Set-Up A Float Rig:

  • Attach bobber to line on the top and bottom. Adjust the depth of the bobber by sliding it up and down the line.
  • Tie a long shank bream hook or bait holder hook to the end of the line.
  • Crimp a split shot weight onto the line a few inches above the hook.
  • Attach a cricket, worm, or minnow to the end of the hook.

Fishing Tips:

  • One of the most successful techniques for catching panfish is by using live bait under a float. Panfish stay together in groups, so when you catch one there are usually more in that area. Try adjusting your bobber to different depths until you find where the fish are feeding. Keep a close eye on your bobber and when it begins to move or goes under, pull back to tighten your line, but do not jerk.
  • Beetle Spin
  • Attach PowerBait grub or use the pre-rigged beetle spin, but make sure that the grub is in a straight line coming off of the shank of the hook.
  • Tie the beetle spin onto your line at the circle point on the lure as shown in the picture below.
  • A beetle spin is an extremely versatile bait that is simple to use. Cast out and reel it in with a steady retrieve and you will feel the blade on the lure spinning through the water. The spinning blade is what attracts the fish to bite. Try working it fast or slow and add in some small jerks of the rod tip to give it a darting and diving motion. This lure can be worked just below the surface or deep in the water column. It is effective for all species of panfish, but it will also catch bass, perch, and walleye.
